Establishing NT Server Baseline Settings
· To examine the Windows NT Server environment
  1. Log on to Windows NT Server as Administrator. The Administrator account password should be blank
  2. On the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. Control Panel appears
  3. In Control Panel, double click Services. The Services dialog box appears
  4. Scroll through the services available. Are there any services with "Publishing" as part of the name listed?
  5. Close the Services dialog box
  6. Close Control Panel
  7. On the Start menu, point Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click User Manager for Domains. The User Manager window appears
  8. Examine the list of names. Is there an Internet Guest Account listed?
  9. Close User Manager
  10. On the Start menu, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Performance Monitor. Performance Monitor appears
  11. On the Edit menu, click Add To Chart. The Add To Chart dialog box appears
  12. Click the Object drop box to see more options. The list of object appears
  13. Examine the items in the list for Internet related items such as File Transfer Protocol (FTP) or Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) objects. Are there any Internet related items in the list?
  14. Close the Add To Chart dialog box and the Performance Monitor

Installing Microsoft Internet Information Server
· To install IIS
  1. Start Windows NT Explorer. Insert CD. Double click setup.exe
  2. Choose Custom installation with following options:

    • Certificate Server
    • FrontPage 98 Extension
    • Internet Information Server
    • Internet Mail Server
    • Internet News Server
    • Microsoft Index Server
    • Microsoft Site Server (all options)
    • Microsoft Transaction Server
    • Windows Scripting Host

· Check
  1. Click Internet Information Server and then click Show Subcomponents. What subcomponents are available?
  2. Verify that all subcomponents are selected and then click OK
  3. Select Microsoft Index Server and then click Show Subcomponents. What subcomponents of Microsoft Index Server are available?
  4. Select Language Resources and then Show Subcomponents. How many languages does Index Server support?
  5. Accept default directories for all components

Identifying Changes made to the Windows NT Server Environment
· To view the changes
  1. On the Start menu, point to Settings, and the click Control Panel. Control Panel appears
  2. Double click the Services icon. The Services dialog box appears
  3. Scroll through the services available. Are there any publishing services listed?
  4. Close the Services dialog box.
  5. Close Control Panel
  6. On the Start menu, point Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click User Manager for Domains. The User Manager window appears
  7. Examine the list of names. Is there an Internet Guest Account listed?
  8. Close the User Manager window
  9. On the Start menu, point to Programs, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Performance Monitor. Performance Monitor appears

  12. Examine the items in the list for Internet related items. Are there any Internet related items in the list? If so, what are the names of the items than can be monitored?
  13. Close the Add To Chart dialog box and the Performance Monitor

· To test your Web site
  1. Click Start and then click Run
  2. In the Open box, type iexplore ServerX (ServerX is your computer name). Internet Explorer launches and displays your default homepage.
  3. In step 2 list aliases that you could used instead of using your computer name
